I found that when I was using OkCupid, it made the on-line dating scene actually fun because you were able to play games and take quizzes, rather than just constantly messaging people that have piqued your interest.
The one game that I liked was the, "quick-match," game where you get to rate potential matches based on snapshot of their profile (and pictures too of course), and if there was a mutually high rating, you would get notified of a reciprocal interest. I think that this was probably one of the better ways of being able to meet people because you were able to detect, through the game, commonalities that would help in identifying whether or not you would be compatible with this said person.
Speaking of compatibility, another great feature about the site is the quiz portion of it. You are able to take personality quizzes that help you complete your profile. In doing this you answer multiple choice questions and, if you make your answers public, you are able to review other potential matches through common answers. Now the range of questions can run from philosophy, to political leanings, to religious viewpoints.
Overall the site feels more like a social network then a dating site with how the feel and content of the site is distributed (like being able to add journals and have people comment on them). But I think this adds a little bit of difference to the site. I am not one to go out there and put up a profile expecting to see results in the romantic field of interest... I would rather get on a dating website and have some fun meeting people instead. If it turns into something then that is great, if not... then at least I didn’t have expectations and became disappointed when it didn’t turn out right.
Always date on-line with fun in mind.
