E-harmony's claim to fame is that they will match you more closely than any other site based on the questions they ask. I'm not convinced. I mean, I agree that what they have is a special formula that no one else uses, and you will be guided to people that you are generally compatible with -- if you're a gun-toting conservative, you won't be set up with a tree-hugging liberal -- but this comes with some caveats. For one, you generally end up answering the same 5 or 6 questions over and over. AND you'll end up reading answers to the same general set of questions over and over. Basically what you learn is whether the person can think and is generally similar to you.
Once you get to pictures and free-talking, there has been so much structured interaction that it's hard to get a sense of who they really are and you still have to start from square one to figure out what they think is funny, will they actually put up with your bad habits (admit it, you have some) and so on. This isn't bad, it's just that it's a LOT of work to get there. And you haven't even met yet! Personally I met some really nice people on this site, and generally I was compatible with them, but I never got a 'spark' because the process is like Date Engineering, which in its essence is kind of mundane. If you like the orderly approach in this way, this site is for you! Otherwise there are other choices.
