I think I have detected a 'scam' with the ChnLove online chat. The responses to my comments were so instantaneous that I thought at first that the woman I was talking with was actually speaking in English to me. The responses seemed too fast for there to be time for translation. So I asked the girl -"what language are you typing in?". She replied that she was typing in Chinese. I was typing in English, so obviously, there was translation was going on. But then something odd happened. She replied to a comment of mine, but she misspelled one of the words (i.e. the word in English was misspelled) in the reply. "She" then immediately corrected herself, by sending a one-word comment which consisted of just the previously misspelled word, but now spelled correctly. I'll give an example here, in case it's not clear what I mean.
Me: Do you like your job?
Her: I liek my job OK
Her: like
So I asked her: "When I asked you if you liked your job, did you type one reply or two? She replied that she had typed two responses, the original and the correction. So now this makes no sense at all. If I was really talking to a woman who was writing in Chinese then she would not have even typed the word "like" (liek), she would have typed an equivalent word in Chinese. Even if she misspelled that word, it would not translate to a misspelling in English. Now the translator who was mediating our conversation could have, of course, typed and corrected the English misspelling, but then why did the 'lady' I was talking to tell me that she had made the correction?
My conclusion? There is no translator. I was having an online chat with someone who speaks English. That person made a spelling mistake, and knew to correct it. They did not realize the implication of my 'one reply or two' question, and so answered it honestly. But in doing so, they gave themselves away. I don't think there is any translation going on. I think that ChnLove just employs people to pose as the 'woman' you are interested in on the chat. Another clue was that the person on 'chat' didn't always seem to know the contents of the letters that I'd send to the lady. So basically, I think I've wasted a couple of hundred bucks on this service.
