I was scammed by a person who posted as an American but using a fake picture labelled with the of Afrointroductions logo. I was not big on online dating but then this guy sounded real. He befriended me and after a few chats on Instagram he asked to transfer to Hangout.

His story is that he was a widow and working as a contractor in an oil rig somewhere in the North Sea. He also said he has a daughter whom she left at a boarding school in Italy. Second red flag with this person when he said he cannot have an actual video call with bec it is prohibited where he is. He just showed his face on video but no voice. Im sure the picture he sent and the man on the video were the same. Except for his slight african accent.

As we went on chatting, he started asking money for his daughter. Sadly, I believed and sent him. Now the thing is I sent the money through Western Union to a friend of his in Dubai. According to him his friend will be the one to send the money to his daughters teacher. That was a bit odd but I then he was able to give plausible explanations to my question.

After 2 months, he said he wants to send me his safety deposit box containing his contract money bec he wants to resign and come to me. Then he gave me instructions on how I can contact the agent of his supposed security company for the box so that accordingly, it can be sent to me through diplomatic box. I searched the internet about this method and I found it to be fake! I told him about it but I think I was so naive that I believed him completely when he said it wasn't a scam and that I should have to trust him.

Anyway, I finally busted him using reserve imaging technology. When I researched further I found out that this similar story and the pictures he sent have been used many times to scam women.

Now I think that most dating sites are being used as haven for money and romance scams. Scammers use love and trust to manipulate vulnerable and truly kind individuals so please beware. A true honorable man or woman who profess his or her love will never make hurt you by putting you in distress over money.

Lesson learned: Never ever send money to people you meet online. Learn it from me.
