As one of the longest running dating websites, Matchmaker.com targets itself towards more mature singles; most are 35 or above. New members can create a free profile and browse. An upgrade is required to send messages and use chat rooms. In addition, paying members get to view the site without ads.
It boasts of millions of profiles, but doesn't give an exact count. It is estimated that there are around 17,000 people active on the site - making it far less populated than rivals like eHarmony and Chemistry.com.
Creating a Profile
To access the members' area, a profile has to be created. As the name suggests, Matchmaker is about connecting people who are compatible with one another. To create your profile, you'll need to complete several pages adding details about you appearance, your unique attributes and your educational background.
It is in-depth and these steps cannot be skipped. If you are in a rush it is frustrating because there are many little boxes to click. If you have time, it is worth the effort to be thorough in describing yourself, so that you'll receive the best possible matches. It's possible to upload up to 10 pictures to your profile.
In order to use most communication features, you need to upgrade to a premium membership package. They start at $34.95 for 1 month Gold access (see here for more details).
As well as allowing access to email and chat, upgrading also increases your visibility on the site. Gold members appear first in searches, have their profiles featured and are able to surf the site without ads.
Matchmaker.com boasts of many happy unions of people around the world. While not the largest, they have been around a long time so that must count for something!
There are profiles from every walk of life listed, so finding a match shouldn't be too hard. It's only a matter of time.
